I’ve been using the combined Teams and chat view since it first became available for testing in early 2025. Now, roughly a year later, I’ve thrown in the towel.

The mental gymnastics of figuring out what is a chat, what is a channel, and where my files live was simply too much. A Microsoft 365 team is more than just a channel and a chat — it’s governance, file handling, apps, and more. While a chat can have apps and files too, it’s typically used as an ad-hoc way to communicate 1:1 or with a small group, without any real document collaboration.

In short, teams and chats are not interchangeable. Showing them in a combined view makes no sense, even after committing to it for a really long time.
